The German and Scandinavian Department is seeking applicants for an instructor of Swedish. The position begins September 16, 2012. The position is full time for one year, but with the possibility of renewal depending on need, funding, and performance. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Swedish and one other Scandinavian language, preferably Danish, a PhD in Scandinavian Studies or a closely related field, and a demonstrated potential to teach at the college level. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach language as well as general education courses in Scandinavian culture and literature, and to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Applications are only being accepted via email: verwest (at) uoregon (dot) edu. For full consideration, applications should include a cover letter describing scholarly interests and qualifications for the position, curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation (including at least one from someone who can address the candidate’s teaching). To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by April 13, 2012, but the position will remain open until filled. The XIIIth International Ibsen Conference |

The XIIIth International Ibsen Conference will be held in Tromsø, 18–23 June 2012, at the Faculty for Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, University of Tromsø. The theme of the conference will be Ibsen and World Drama(s). We are aiming at Ibsen’s dramas as world drama, world theatre, not to say world literature, as well as at the political, social and religious dramas of our world, contemporary and historic, which in one way or another are crucial for our understanding of and preoccupation with Ibsen. The overall theme invites contributions on a variety of topics. Papers may address, but are by no means restricted to, the following topics:
Ibsen and gender – Ibsen and media – Ibsen and popular culture – Ibsen and theatrical space – Ibsen and the North – Ibsen and world literature – Ibsen in Africa – Ibsen readers – Ibsen’s letters – Designing Ibsen: Scenography, cinematography, lighting, music – Mapping Ibsen – The Ibsen Industry – Translation, translocation, and intercultural performance
We are asking for contributions on all aspects of the main theme. Length of papers: 20 minutes.
Extended deadline for registration and abstracts: January 15, 2012.
